モロコフと彼のチームは今同非常に自信を持っている。それは彼らのプレイヤーが勝つことに対してだけでなく昨年のアナトリーと同様なことがないことに対しての自信でもあった。ソ連の新チャンピオンはいささか変わった内省的な人物で、話している時とチェスをしている時のみフル回転で機能出来るようだ。通称“CHESS・マシーン”
タイ・テレビでアナトリーが取材を受けている。フレディが彼のインタビュアーであることに驚く。フレディはチェスのことはそっちのけでアナトリーの利注活。フローレンスのこと、政治的なことばかりを質問する。その上、スベトラーナが今回のゲームのためにバンコクへ来る手続きがなされた事実も放送中に彼に伝える。アナトリーは腹を立てその場を立ち去ってしまう。
アナトリーとフローレンスがスベトラーナのバンコク到着の模様をテレビで見ている。二人の間の緊張感がいよいよ深まる。(口論)
